I made this item, because I felt that I needed to add something different to my shop which is totally hand made. It can stand on the counter on its own. Its over all length is approximately 6-3/4 inches.
The pick itself is made of an old 6 penny nail, or "spike". I first ground the nail on my grinder to remove material from the nail and then ground the tip of the nail to a very fine and very sharp point. Once I obtain the desired ruff shape and sharpness I worked the piece on a metal file and then finished the piece with sand paper and buffed to a nice shine.
